Often the cause of busy-ness is the inability to “let things go”.
This is a challenge we worth through with clients everyday! You simply cannot trust someone else do to anything as well as you, or you think “oh by the time I tell them I could have done it myself”, or what if I give it to someone else and they “muck it up”.
These limiting believes aren’t doing you any favours, in fact they don’t help anyone – at. all.
All this does is make your household (regardless of how many occupants), “Key Person Dependant”, ie nothing can happen or move forward without YOU.
In the business world this situation is often the way that businesses “choke” or lack the ability to grow because EVERYTHING depends on you. You can’t step away from the helm, let alone go away on holiday.
So you know the principles at work, so why not at home?
This need to hold onto every possible decision or activity can often be viewed as being a “control freak” or worse “a martyr”. This can have the unwanted consequence of having friends family and co-workers ask you to do everything because they know you will “take care of it”.
So how do you stop the cycle? You need to recognise that:
- In reality no one actually cares how stuff gets done. Only you care.
- How important is it that some does a task EXACTLY as you would do it, the fact that it is done and relieved you of one more activity should be enough.
- No will remember if YOU did a task or if it was simply taken care of.
- You are not “that” unique, there are a of experts out there who can complete a tasks just as well as you – sorry about that.
- Who are you trying to impress?
- What are you scared of, what is the worse that can happen versus the BEST that can happen.
Imagine if you were able to just let go of one thing a month, delegate to someone else, or outsource it.
Simple.
