How hard can it be to move house, just grab some cardboard boxes and chuck everything in?
Right?
I can do it on my own, it won’t take long?
Famous last words…!!
Where’s the best place to get boxes and packing materials from?
Wait. Hold on, which way do these boxes go together?
Where’s the tape?
Bubble wrap or newspaper?
Who put all the newpapers in the recycling bin?
Which room do I start in?
There are SO many things to consider, and all this while you maintain your everyday life!!
I have recently made the move from a 5 bed, 3.5 bath house. I am sure someone has been sneaking into my house and been storing their stuff in my cupboards because I honestly did not think I owned so stuff!
But it is not the furniture that takes the time, it’s the knick knacks, clothes, kitchen bibs & bobs and of course the endless cupboards and mountains of kids toys.
If you plan ahead and stay organised, you should make it through the moving process reasonably unscathed and ready to settle in at your new abode.
1. The best way to get started is to declutter approximately 8 weeks prior to your move, this was you can sell or donate anything you no longer need. Admittedly this is hard if you are having open homes and working, so this is your excuse to call in the professionals.
2. Next is to create a countdown checklist to work out what needs to happen week by week. Remember this list needs to include hooking up essentials services in your new abode.
3. Not all movers are the same! Yes, they are all capable of transiting your goods from one destination to the next, but it’s the way they communicate with you throughout the process that makes the difference.
4. Ask someone to look after your pets and children on the day, because moving is harder than you think and you don’t want any distractions.
If it all just become too much to handle all the little details involved in moving, then it is time to call in the Professionals. They can do as much or as little as you want, ranging from decluttering, packing, unpacking at both ends transferring your phones and utilities, so you just walk in and start living your life.
Sound good…?
Good luck, or just give us a call.
