Inspired by an article on Vogue recently where editors shared their first date stories, we thought we’d do the same! In the spirit of fun this Valentines Day, here are our embarrassingly personal stories.
Natalie: I met my current partner 10 years ago. I went to his Mum’s place to watch TV (flashy I know) and he was so tired from work that he fell asleep. I just let him sleep, closed the door and left! It may have had something to do with the fact we were watching the O.C. Not exactly his idea of fun.
Jane: I was a regular at a certain night club and had the hots for the bartender as all the girls did. I scored a date! Woot. We saw the Lion King. Romance. Not. Turns out he only went out with me to get to my roomie. They had a lovely relationship….. sigh…. O
Adele: My first date was to the ‘pictures’ with a boy named Anthony (not the one I’m married to). I had to sneak out of the house to go because my parents did not allow dating. Somehow my Dad found out and came to the cinema to get me, luckily I was in the loo at my time, but all my friends saw him and they had to suffer an interrogation as to my whereabouts #awkward
Amy: We were living on neighbouring cattle stations in the Gulf of Carpenteria and had spent many Saturday nights at the Burke and Wills Roadhouse in a group of friends. When we had opportunity to travel to Cloncurry (yes, its all as fabulous as it sounds) alone, which was roughly a 3 hour drive, it was the same weekend his grandparents were in town on their way to Darwin. Long story short, we spent most of the evening catching up with his grandparents AND because it was so cold and I didn’t have a jacket with me, I ended up wearing his Grandma’s jumper at her insistence. Totes awks!
And the story straight out of a fairytale…
Kirsty: I met my husband through mutual friends at the Races and we kicked it off straight away. The following weekend we went for a coffee at Harvey’s on James Street. We had so many similarities and the same interests that I remember thinking that he was too good to be true. Later on I sent him a text thanking him for a great time and that I would love to see him again. The rest is history!
