Kirsty Astill | Concierge

Do you ever feel like you just can’t get on top of your to-do-list? You are not alone.

I am an organised person by nature, yet it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed by the endless number of tasks and items on my to-do-list at times. Being a Mama to 2.5 year old twin boys, working part-time and managing a household has certainly made me reassess how I prioritise and make the best use of my time. So here are my top 10 tips:

  • Write everything down or using your Notes App on your phone.
  • Prioritise your tasks and work out how long each one will take you.
  • Schedule time in your diary and have a pop up reminder. It’s also handy if you use the recurring feature in your electronic calendar for those ongoing tasks that require attention weekly, fortnightly and monthly.
  • Group ‘like’ tasks together i.e. if you have tasks to complete on the computer, allocate 30 minutes and put a timer on yourself. Once your 30 minutes is up move onto the next task.
  • If you are managing a project, such as renovating a house, break it down into small chunks and map it out. It becomes so much clearer when you do.
  • Don’t be a perfectionist – ask yourself whether the extra time spent will change or affect the outcome.
  • Don’t be scared to say ‘no’ – We are all busy and it is so easy to over commit.
  • Have fun! – If it’s getting the ironing down or mopping the floors, turn up the music and sing. You will enjoy it so much more.
  • Get your family involved – my boys love to vacuum, water the pot plants, feed their dog and tidy up their toys.
  • Outsource where possible. Whether it’s getting a cleaner in once a fortnight or ordering healthy dinner options online, this will take the pressure off.

Hire a Personal Concierge! Oh that’s right I am one. No seriously, if you are feeling snowed under then then this is a great option to get you back on track and to provide you with the ‘time to live’. Why not check out The Concierge Collective website for more details.

To finish off – ‘If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done’. — Bruce Lee
